Avishai Cohen – Brightlight (Naïve)

Share

October sees the release of new albums from two prominent jazz playing Avishai Cohens. The trumpet playing Avishai releases the rather good Ashes to Gold on ECM while the bass-playing Avishai drops Brightlight on Naïve. A first “single” Roni’s Swing was released a couple of months back and grabbed One Jazz’s ears for its sparkling and yes, bright, forward motion sound driven by drummer Roni Kaspi. Brightlight is a testament to Cohen’s eclecticism as an artist, featuring a diverse array of original compositions, jazz standards and one vocal track, the classic ‘Summertime’.

The overall effect is one of catchy tunes played with a sense of hopeful enthusiasm with Guy Moskovich’s glistening piano and plenty of well-pitched sumptuous bass solos from the Avishai himself.

This is our Album Of The Week on One Jazz w/c Monday 21st October
