Originally from the UK, Mark began his record buying obsession as a 14 year old at Slough Record Centre with Spyro Gyra’s Morning Dance. As his taste and understanding of jazz deepened, and his vinyl collection quickly grew, Mark dived deep into the London Jazz Dance scene of the 1980s, listening to Pirate Radio, learning the saxophone and hearing the greats at such clubs as Ronnie Scotts.
Leaving the UK in the 1990s, Mark made Aotearoa / New Zealand his home where his passion for all things Jazz led to a his first broadcasting opportunities and finding his voice as a radio show presenter. In the early 2000s, Mark collaborated with Auckland musicians and educators on his radio shows and was a founding member of CJC – Creative Jazz Club in Auckland. Now proudly in its 15th year CJC continues to bring original, engaging and innovative jazz to new audiences.
Mark has hosted Live-to-Air Jazz shows in both Aotearoa and Australia, notably George FM (Auckland), PBS 106FM (Melbourne), Radio Adelaide (Adelaide) and BayFM Radio (Brisbane). He brings this show ‘Jazz Down Under’ to Onejazz from an old villa in the heart of Whakaraupo / Lyttelton village situated on the gorgeous deep water harbour of The South Island’s east coast. The show will feature new and old releases from musicians, arrangers, writers, producers and sidemen who have connections “Down Under”.
