James Hussein Catchpole is an on/off Japan resident since 1997. He started tokyojazzsite.com in 2007 to introduce the deep and beautiful world Japanese jazz kissa culture, and has since visited over 325 jazz spots nationwide; since 2015 he has collaborated on the best-selling photo book (and now podcast), Tokyo Jazz Joints with photographer Philip Arneill. He also hosts the long-running OK Jazz Podcast (all genres), and when not obsessing about music, drinks beer and plays with his dog. He’s still failing in his attempts to make his teenage kids fall in love with free jazz, but they do like his Bobby Hutcherson and Congolese Rumba records.
