Henry Hilton is just beginning his radio journey. He’s a natural. To Henry, salsa music is more than just a passion; it’s been a part of his life from day one and he can’t wait to illuminate the music with his own stories from his travels.
Growing up with parents who were ballroom and Latin dancers, he was always more intrigued by the big bands playing the music than by the dancing on the floor. He fell in love with salsa at around 15 years old, thanks to the records of the legendary Héctor Lavoe, whose music got under his skin. A real determination to understand every word Hector was singing led Henry to learn Spanish. He took it even further by studying Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies at university, all driven by his love for salsa and other music of the Americas.
Recently, his passion has taken him to South America, where he had the chance to travel through Brazil and Colombia, where he uncovered some incredible records to share with you on his new show Salsa Select here on One Jazz.
