Rowan Flack

South-London-born Rowan Flack is a contemporary jazz vocalist, writer, educator and broadcaster – “quickly becoming a key figure in the UK jazz and soul renaissance..becoming renowned for her thought-provoking lyrical approach and seamlessly smooth instrumentality” – Wonderland Magazine

The BRIT School alumna studied jazz at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and Norwegian folk and jazz at The Edvard Grieg Academy (Norway). Her explorative nature has led to the creation of many musical projects: releases under her name, London-based folk-jazz trio, Giant Folk and the vocalese project of Keith Jarrett’s ‘Belonging’, with her Norwegian sextet, based in Bergen.

Supported by Help Musicians and the Generate Fund, Rowan released EP “Forest Fires” (2024) and “New Light Dwelling” (2019). This led to accreditation from Jazzwise, Notion, Wonderland, Jazz FM, Islington Radio, Resonance FM and Hoxton Radio, with many more complimentary press reviews.

She has played at established London jazz venues including Pizza Express Jazz Club, ‘Jazz Breakout Sessions’ at Alfie’s, and House of KOKO, and has played at many venues in Norway including Bergen JazzForum (USF Verftet). In 2020, she had live dates in Beijing and held a two-month residency at the Midai Music Jazz Club in Xiamen, China.

As a broadcaster, she has presented radio shows at Hoxton Radio and her ‘Far and Wide’ series at Morley Radio. In collaboration with Hoxton, she interviewed artists and DJs such as Coco Maria and Corto Alto at We Out Here, 2024. Whilst currently studying for an MA in Broadcast Journalism, she also teaches regularly at prestigious music schools such as The BRIT School and ELAM. She has previously taught jazz workshops with City Academy and has worked as a mentor, supporting young musicians in London, with funding from Youth Action Alliance and National Youth Arts Trust.
