2024 feels like a vintage year for the vibes in jazz with strong new albums from Patricia Brennan and Simon Moulier and Joel Ross seemingly in the studio full-time given the amount of albums he’s a superlative guest on.
Warren Wolf is up there with the contemporary best on the instrument and this album is a work of passion as he celebrates the legacy and compositions of many of his vibraphone heroes including Bobby Hutcherson, Lionel Hampton, Cal Tjader and Roy Ayers. The love of those players and his mallets jump out of the speakers in an album that packs a punch from end to end. The album boasts a great band with saxophonist Tim Green, pianist Alex Brown, bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Carroll “CV” Dashiell III.
